From the Field to the Lab.
A 25-Year Journey to Build a Better Period.

What Dr. Vishva Saw in the Field

"Two problems lodged themselves in her mind and refused to leave: a silent health crisis and an mounting environmental toll."

In the villages of rural India, a pattern repeated itself. Women spoke in lowered voices about their periods — if they spoke at all. Girls missed school. Women endured infections silently. Products that promised protection gave only leakage management. And when those products were used, they were burned in the open, buried in fields, or thrown into water bodies — because there was nowhere else for them to go.

Dr. Vishva Jeotsna spent over two decades in these communities. Not as a visitor — as a worker, a listener, a partner. She had joined the Indian Institute of Health Management and Research fresh out of her education, and spent the years that followed moving across states, working on maternal health, reproductive health, nutrition, sanitation, and gender equity.

01

Problem One: The Health Gap

Menstrual products available to most Indian women — especially in underserved communities — focused entirely on absorption. They offered no protection for vaginal pH, no antibacterial function, no consideration of intimate health. Women were developing infections. And accepting it as normal.

02

Problem Two: The Environmental Toll

Billions of conventional plastic-based sanitary pads were discarded every year. In communities without waste management infrastructure, they accumulated in fields, drainage channels, and rivers. They would remain there for centuries. This was not a future problem. It was happening now.

The Red Revolution

In 2018, Dr. Jeotsna became Director of Prodigious Management Consultancy and launched what would become her signature campaign: the Red Revolution.

The Red Revolution was not a product campaign. It was a movement. It travelled across states with one mission: to take menstruation out of the shadows. To say the word out loud. To give women the information they had always deserved. To tell girls that their bodies were not shameful — they were remarkable.

The campaign reached millions. It ran workshops in schools, community halls, and rural health centres. It trained ASHAs and community health workers. It won the CSR Times Award in 2021. And it showed Dr. Jeotsna, with total clarity, what the movement still needed — a product that could match its ambition.

Founding Mi Bliss — The Decision

The Meaning Behind 'Mi Bliss'

'Mi' — mine. Personal. Yours.
'Bliss' — a state of peace and wellbeing. Because that is exactly what menstruation should feel like: yours to own, and free from discomfort.

In July 2024, Dr. Vishva Jeotsna founded Vishva Jyotsna Enterprises Pvt Ltd.

The mandate was precise: create a menstrual product that genuinely protects women's intimate health, uses responsible materials, and can scale across India without becoming a luxury item.

After extensive research into material science, product architecture, and manufacturing feasibility, Mi Bliss was developed — a 7-layer sanitary napkin system built on bamboo fibre, biodegradable superabsorbent polymers, plant-based antibacterial action, biopolymer pH buffering, and a PLA backsheet that replaces petroleum plastic.

From the Founder's Desk

In Dr. Vishva Jeotsna's own words:

"When I began my journey working with women in communities across India, I listened to many stories — stories of strength, resilience, and hope. But I also heard stories of discomfort, infections, embarrassment, and silence surrounding menstruation. Something as natural as a monthly cycle was still causing so much difficulty for millions of women."

"At the same time, I became increasingly aware of another hidden problem — the enormous amount of plastic waste generated by conventional sanitary pads. Billions of pads discarded every year, remaining in landfills for centuries and silently harming our environment. These two realities stayed with me: women's health being compromised, and our planet bearing the burden of menstrual waste."

"I believed that menstrual care should do more than provide absorption. It should protect women's intimate health, respect the body's natural balance, and also be responsible toward the environment. With this belief, I founded Vishva Jyotsna Enterprises and began working on what would eventually become Mi Bliss."

"Mi Bliss is not just a product to me. It is part of a larger mission — to bring awareness, dignity, and better choices to women and girls. My hope is that Mi Bliss contributes to a future where no woman has to compromise her health, where menstruation is discussed with openness and respect, and where our solutions are kind to the planet we share. Every step we take is guided by one belief: when we care for women, we care for the future."
